Dubai’s newest contemporary art gallery, RARARES, brings fine art into everyday life, spotlighting rare talent and unique perspectives

In the bustling art market of Dubai, one gallery is set to disrupt the status quo. Launched in 2024, RARARES contemporary art gallery, nestled in the city’s Financial District, aims to make fine art an essential part of daily life. Founder Marina Baisel, with her dual background in interior design and art, infuses a rare vision into every corner of the gallery. Inspired by the Latin word “rarus,” meaning rare, RARARES celebrates the beauty of uniqueness, making this space a must-visit for collectors and art lovers alike.

Marina Baisel’s mission is clear: to bring art into homes, shape environments, and inspire creativity. "Art has always been a central part of my life," she says. "I want people to incorporate art into their personal spaces, nurturing their creativity and helping them find their own taste." At RARARES, fine art isn't just something you view; it’s something you live with.

Redefining Dubai’s Art Scene

While Dubai’s art world often features well-known names or local talent, RARARES seeks a fresh path. By presenting works from a range of international artists, the gallery caters to diverse tastes and creates a dynamic platform where global art meets local sensibilities.

The gallery's current exhibition, Eidos by Mederic Turay, exemplifies this commitment to bold, boundary-pushing art. The exhibition, running until March 31, marks Turay's debut show in the UAE and features his ceramic works that explore the distortion of forms and cultural symbols. A descendant of the noble Akan people of West Africa, Turay draws on his heritage, melding ancestral masks and spiritual symbols with a contemporary artistic voice.

“I want to show art that reflects the human experience on a larger scale,” says Turay. His work transcends race, geography, and politics, making Eidos a thought-provoking, multicultural exploration that speaks to a global audience.

Fostering Creativity, Embracing Diversity

For Baisel, RARARES is more than a gallery - it’s a platform for nurturing creative talent. "The art world is constantly evolving, and I want to create a space where artists can thrive and collectors can discover new works that push the boundaries of their understanding," she explains.

This year, the gallery is already making waves. Following Eidos, upcoming exhibitions include Digital Space: Where Art Meets Craft by Yuksel Dal, and Powerful Spring, a group show focusing on women artists. The gallery will also feature Solid Fragility, a solo exhibition by renowned glass artist Maria Bang Espersen. Each show is an opportunity to create a fresh experience, offering visitors a unique way to connect with art and the stories it tells.

A Global Stage for Emerging Talent

RARARES is also making its mark internationally. In 2025, the gallery will make its Asian debut at Art Central Fair, part of Hong Kong Art Week. The gallery’s participation in this prestigious event will bring together works from emerging contemporary artists, including Marina Baisel, Mederic Turay, and Mathias Hagen, among others.

Marina is passionate about bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that RARARES stays at the cutting edge of the contemporary art world. "I carefully select artists who embody diversity and uniqueness," she says. "They inspire us to challenge conventional ideas and to push the boundaries of what art can be."

As Dubai’s art scene continues to grow, RARARES stands at the forefront of this evolution - connecting fine art with everyday life, and offering an experience that is both global and deeply personal. Whether you’re an art collector or a curious first-timer, this gallery is a space that invites you to see the world differently.
