The Wavescape Artboard Project returns in full force with ten one-of-a-kind surfboards upon which local artists have worked their magic. The auction takes place at Jack Black’s Taproom from 6pm on Wednesday 22 March. This year's lineup of artists includes Brett Murray, Amy Ayanda, Fhatuwani Mukheli, Marie-Louise Koen, Amy-Lee Tak, Dbongz, Justin Southey, Liberty Battson, Lee-Ann Heath, and Marti Lund.

The Wavescape Art Board Project has raised awareness and funds for ocean-related charities since 2005. Each year, Wavescape invites artists to turn signature surfboards into works of art for an exhibition and a special auction. The Cape Town leg of the project has been hosted by various contemporary art galleries, cafés, and studio spaces over the years, and Jack Black’s Taproom is proud to host the 2023 Cape Town iteration. This year’s project beneficiaries are the NSRI, the 9Miles Project, the Beach Co-op, the Shark Spotters, and Ocean Pledge.

Past contributing artists have included Asha Zero, Jake Aikman, Sanell Aggenbach, Andrew Whitehouse, Willie Bester, Conrad Botes, Beezy Bailey, Wim Botha, Guy Tillim, Brett Murray, Karabo Poppy, Osnat de Villiers and many more. These and many other artists have kindly donated their time and talent to make the Artboard Project a success, together donating over R7.5 million to ocean causes.
