SEE: Tour a timeless nursery
Laura Torbert started her eponymous interior design firm in 2014 with the mission to curate beautiful, evocative spaces with positive energy. She has since worked on projects in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Ohio, New York, and Maryland that showcase her clean, cultivated, and sophisticated design style.
For her most recent work, Torbert collaborated with acclaimed contemporary artist, Sally King Benedict, on a thoughtful nursery design for Benedict’s daughter.
Sally and her husband George Read II share a home in the Atlanta district, Tuxedo Park which they completely renovated in 2020. Both Sally and George grew up in homes that fostered a deep appreciation for art and with Sally being a professional artist herself, this is something that they would surely want to pass on to their children. Thanks to Laura Torbert’s expertise, Sally now has a timeless and elegant space where they can spend time with her daughter.
Torbert fit the nursery with a custom hand-forged iron crib, crib bumper and crib canopy made by JRW Custom, pleated vanity skirt, and drapery panels. She chose vintage French pink glass, brass fan sconces and a Moravian Star pendant to light up the room.
Adding a uniquely personal note to the nursery, Torbert included the glider that was Sally’s grandmother’s from her original home in Sea Island. It is from a cottage they built on 14th street and Sally fondly remembers sitting in it growing up as a little girl. It is slipcovered in Brunschwig + Fils Robec Stripe, Red.
The nursery also features other unique décor pieces like the antique French faux bamboo carved mirror in the bathroom, a vintage changing table/dresser and custom drapery panels by Lisa Fine Textiles. Take a look at the complete nursery tour below.
