Visit the Taj Cape Town for a fantastic hotel experience
What makes a hotel really special? Fantastic service – obviously. A room that’s even more comfy than home – absolutely. An exciting range of experiences – for sure. But it’s the small details, the attention to design, that make you want to come home. The Taj Cape Town offers all of this, which is exactly what makes a stay here unforgettable.
Even before this landmark heritage hotel revealed its exciting new look ground floor last year, it had gained acclaim as one of the Mother City’s most iconic establishments. Locations don’t come much better than this: situated in the heart of the City, everything you could possibly need (from offices and shops to five-star tourist experiences) is just minutes away.
Add to this the legendary Taj hospitality, known the world over, and an interior that embraces luxe whole-heartedly, and you have a hotel that’s nothing short of irresistible. Even so, the Taj team was determined to prove that the best could get even better. That’s why last year, it proudly unveiled a brand new look for its ground floor, complete with stunning new venues.
These venues include the Taj Lobby Bar and Lounge; a tribute to nostalgic glamour. If your destination of choice is strongly influenced by what your Instagram reel could look like, you won’t be disappointed: the landmark St George’s Cathedral is framed by the Lobby Bar’s generously proportioned sash windows; an antique mirror hanging between them. The bar itself is the hero of the area; a fact which is in no doubt thanks to the spotlight which draws all eyes and adds a dash of drama.
The brand-new Whiskey Bar continues the theme of old-school cool – all leather and wood. It’s the perfect setting to enjoy a range of whiskeys from around the world.
Although the Lobby Lounge was a key feature even before the ground floor refresh, it is now more striking than ever before. This space has always given a nod to grandeur, thanks to the fluted columns that are a legacy from the building’s days as home to the South African Reserve Bank. While the sense of drama remains intact, all furnishings in this area have been lightened and refreshed to give it a more contemporary twist.
It makes for an exciting play of contrasts; a theme that is repeated throughout the hotel through the addition of accents that offset bold colours and finishes with an appealing tactility. The result? An aesthetic that pays tribute to the exotic Indian heritage of the Taj brand, while rooting it firmly modern-day South Africa.
Sophistication, elegance, and, above all, an unmistakable warmth: these are the attributes that set Taj Cape Town apart.
