Between juggling her award-winning acting career and her position as founder and CEO of hair care line TPH by Taraji, Taraji P. Henson is a skilled multitasker. Even her social media feeds do double duty: A recent series of posts on Instagram not only gave followers some insight into emulating her glamorous life but also served to uplift several Black-owned companies in the process.
In honour of Black History Month, Henson dedicated several days of February to sharing her favourite Black-owned brands across a handful of industries, including beauty, wellness, and art. Home goods were the subject of her February 11 post, when she wrote, “Today is all about home, decor, and living,” alongside five of her own favorite brands and asked her followers to share even more Black-owned decor gurus in the comments.
The first of Henson’s picks was Clare, an online paint company founded by interior designer Nicole Gibbons that simplifies the process of browsing, swatching, and purchasing paint colors. This was followed by Claude Home, which was founded by former fashion editor Maggie Holladay and offers a very closely curated selection of vintage furniture and other decor pieces. Next up on Henson’s list was Bolé Road Textiles, founded by designer Hana Getachew to bring traditional Ethiopian handwoven fabrics to a larger audience.
The final two home brands Henson spotlighted were PUR Home, a company selling nontoxic, eco-friendly household cleaning products founded by Angela and Michelle Richardson, and Aya Paper Co., a 100% recycled, sustainable stationery brand founded by SaVonne Anderson.
