Since the hard lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have been working from home – either partially or on a full-time basis. If you have a home office, you may be underestimating the power of feng shui.

As a traditional Chinese practice, feng shui suggests that the positioning of the items in your home could be contributing to your overall energy and mental and physical well-being. If you’ve been finding yourself in a productive slump and are looking to feng shui your space to try and remedy this – we have four tips for you.

1. Let in the light

Position your office desk in a way that allows light to flow in the space. Now, if you don’t want the glare to hurt your eyes and disturb your workflow further, be very mindful about the positioning of the furniture in your office.

2. De-clutter

For many people, clutter in the form of a messy desk or home can be a major source of anxiety and a lack of productivity. Make sure you take at least one day in the week to remove unnecessary clutter from your space, and wipe down surfaces to create a calmer environment.

3. Power position your desk

@wuisthatgirl Did you know by simply change the way you sit/work/study, you will automatically gain more control/power over your life? Here is how! #fengshui #fengshuitips #fengshuilifestyle #office #officearrangement #arrangement #seating #seatingarrangements #seats #work #workfromhome #study #power #success #powermoves #control #positivevibes #mind #mindset #opportunity #command #commanders #layout #officedecor ♬ Women in Power - Briand, Philippe & Saban, Gabriel

Have your desk in a commanding position, where you are able to see the door but are not directly in line with it. This will help you feel more in control of your surroundings and life and ready to tackle any tasks ahead of you.

4. Be mindful of flow

In the same way clutter may prevent you from focusing well, so too can a messy office floor. Ensure there is enough space to move comfortably to your desk to prevent obstacles keeping you from working well. If you’re a student, having a comfortable chair and a clear space to move to and from your office is key to avoiding procrastination – you ultimately don’t want to create a sense of dread for any work you have in store.
