The Funky Loft is home to the creative Marcella Lentz-Pope/ a hip bed and breakfast / a sought-after photo shoot location.
Three years ago, Marcella built and designed her home in Brooklyn and decided to share it with the world by turning it into a funky Bed & Breakfast as well as a shoot location. The loft features two-stories, fitted with open beam ceilings and large windows and skylights that open up the space.
Marcella decorated her loft with vintage and eclectic furniture and added plants to make it feel like an indoor jungle. She also added a swing to the living space because, ‘who doesn’t want a swing in their living room?’
Take a look at this short Q&A with Marcella Lentz-Pope below.
What inspired the Bohemian theme?
I’ve always bought what I liked and not what others thought was stylish. So, the majority of my pieces don’t really go together. And I think being random and non-specific is a part of being eclectic and bohemian. My design motto is ‘if nothing goes together, then everything goes together’.
Did you design the space yourself?
I did! When I moved in it was one big studio apartment that was screaming for something to be built and added. I designed and built the 3 downstairs bedrooms and upstairs balcony suite, my room, and then styled and decorated the space.
How did you source the unique furniture and décor pieces for the loft?
I grew up going to flea markets with my mom and collecting random vintage items. The majority of pieces in the loft I’ve had since I was a teenager. The bigger pieces I found mostly on Craigslist and I love to shop on Etsy when I’m too lazy to shop in person. But I’m a sucker for a good antique store.
Which room in the loft is your favourite?
That’s a hard question! It changes every time I update one of the guest rooms and then that room becomes my favourite. But I guess if I had to choose… It would be ’The Backpackers Dream’ room.
It just sleeps 1 and is quite tiny but the bed is lofted right next the window with rainbow twinkle lights on the ceiling and is just so cosy. Whenever that room isn’t booked, I’ll sleep there myself and curl up with some tea and a movie and it’s perfect just for me.
