In interior design, sometimes the journey from a modest brief to a grand renovation is as much a story of inspiration as it is of collaboration. Such was the case with a recent project in Bel Air headed by Linda Boronkay, which started with minimal direction, yet ended in a lavish transformation reminiscent of Middle Eastern opulence.

'We were given quite a bit of freedom with this project,' Linda says. 'But knowing our clients' penchant for Middle Eastern holiday destinations, we aimed for a level of detail that exuded glamour and sophistication.'

What began as a simple exercise in furniture and lighting quickly evolved into a full-scale renovation. Drawing inspiration from the building's architectural grandeur – think triple-height ceilings, Corinthian columns, and abundant natural light – the vision for the project became clear: 'Our goal was to strike a balance between luxury and functionality,' explains Linda.

Despite the home not being their primary residence, practicality was key, especially given the meticulous nature and lifestyle of the owners. The clients, both accomplished Olympic athletes and entrepreneurs, emphasised the importance of seamless flow and comfort. 'We wanted to ensure that every aspect of the redesign served a purpose,' Linda notes.

'From the primary bedroom layout to the placement of wardrobes, every detail was carefully considered.' But it wasn't just about functionality; it was about creating an atmosphere of grand opulence. 'I was enamoured by the scale and grandeur of the building,' admits the designer.

'Drawing from Hollywood Regency influences, we aimed to transport occupants to a world of glamour and luxury.' The process of furnishing the space was equally considered. 'The majority of the furniture pieces were bespoke,' Linda reveals.

'We wanted to ensure that each piece complemented the grandeur of the space while reflecting the clients' tastes.' From sourcing bespoke items from around the globe to finding unique treasures in local Los Angeles establishments, every piece was selected with care. 'The goal was to create an ambiance that felt both luxurious and welcoming,' she says.

Material selection played a crucial role in achieving this ambiance. Marble became a recurring theme throughout the home tapping signature marbles to create cohesion, while bold accents of cobalt blue added personality and depth.

The result? A home that seamlessly blends grandeur with practicality, opulence with comfort. 'From the sweeping staircase to the meticulously appointed interiors, every element tells a story of luxury living at its finest,' concludes the designer. In the end, this project is not just a renovation – it's a testament to the power of collaboration, inspiration, and attention to detail. It's a celebration of grandeur, where every corner whispers of Middle Eastern opulence and Hollywood glamour.
