Need to breathe some fresh, unpolluted air and get out of the city? Well, just outside Montagu off the R62 and only two and a half hours outside of Cape Town in the Poortjieskloof mountains you will find Cabine Du Cap — a beautifully serene luxury retreat on 175 hectares of land in the Klein Karoo, completely isolated and unlike any other.
Cabine Du Cap accommodates up to 20 people with two primary options where you can stay: The Main Camp and Caracal. The Main Camp consists of La Cabine (the original en-suite 2-sleeper cabin), Goshawk’s Nest (a 2-sleeper luxury en-suite safari tent) and Weaver’s Nest, a luxury camping tent. All three of these are in close vicinity to each other and when booking at La Cabine, you have access to the other two options and they can not be booked separately to allow for maximum comfort and privacy.
Before entering the cabin you will notice a boma fireplace and swimming pool. Expect a delicious farm style breakfast cooked on a fire at the boma by the friendliest, most accommodating staff in the morning alongside some healthier options too.
The cabin itself is built from sustainable, durable Rhino Wood while the interior has a well-maintained cabin feel along with a fully stocked bar, fireplace, high-quality linen bedding, towels and gowns allowing for maximum cabincore comfort.
Although completely off the grid, the whole camp is run by solar power, which allows for all important amenities including a bluetooth speaker (which will be playing soothing classical music upon your arrival), high-speed wi-fi, a Nespresso machine and other essential and comforting electronics.
The open-air deck outside the cabin is perfect for a sunrise coffee or a sunset glass of wine as it overlooks the sprawling landscape in front of you or even an outdoors metal bubble bath under the majestic Karoo stars. This last option comes highly recommended by yours truly.
Next up is Caracal, a four bedroom eco-splendour atop a mountain with 360 degree views, a swimming pool on the edge of a cliff and reverse osmosis purified water. The interior was done by Malawi Cane and the timber used throughout is made from Siberian Larch, and yes you guessed it, it’s also sustainable. For the outdoors lover, hiking routes with walkie talkies are also available on request.
Cabine Du Cap is for any one who needs to be rejuvenated with some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city while being surrounded by nature in all its glory in the lap of leisure. Doesn’t that sound like all of us sometimes?
