After nearly 400 years of colonial rule under the British Monarchy, Barbados is now the independent republic of Barbados and Sandra Mason has been sworn in as the republic’s first president. And, we cannot forget to mention, that the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, officially declared Rihanna a National Hero of Barbados during the prestigious ceremony.

This magical eastern Caribbean island is known for its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and incredible culture and nightlife. So to help you plan your next adventure to Rihanna’s home country, we have put together a shortlist of the best places to stay when in Barbados.

Before you start making your travel arrangements there are a few things you need to know. First, South African citizens do not require a Barbados tourist visa for a stay of up to 180 days. And secondly, all travellers are required to present proof of a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test taken at an accredited or recognised laboratory within 3 days prior to arrival. The date of the test and not the date of the result is what will be assessed against the 3-day time frame.
