South Africa is home to a myriad of unique artists and their work is making its way to collectors around the world. Say hello to La Terra, a collaboration between design studio Lemon and South African ceramic artist Jade Paton. One of the first between these two local gems and hopefully with many more to come. Previously, our Editor-in-Chief Piet Smedy wrote about Lemon's recently opened showroom in Amsterdam. The design studio has various offerings, from art to furniture and interior accessories.
Cape Town-based Jade Paton has a growing global reputation – her work is collected as far afield as Tokyo and Paris – and mastery of the medium, Paton's signature is her striking contemporary vessels that, while functional, lean more towards sculpture. Her works – each recognisably statuesque, tactile and understated – blur the boundaries between art and design. There is a distinct use of colour as a part of her ethos. These beautiful vessels make a statement in any home, it’s definitely a collector’s piece.
"My work is very colour-driven, as is Lemon's. This shared love for exceptional tones was a big source of inspiration behind the collection and I loved the colour combinations that Kevin gravitated towards," she adds.
