In celebration of the women who changed our political landscape in August 1956, Carrol Boyes Functional Art is going the extra mile to honour their strong and capable women.
Renowned South African artist and designer Carrol Boyes has been a gender equality icon since she launched her iconic brand, Carrol Boyes Functional Art. Previously a teacher, at 35 years old Carrol created what is now one of the most sought-after luxury flatware, giftware, tableware and home accessory brands.
Her company now boasts a staff that is 80% female skilled labour (management included) and a 67% women-led staff compliment.
Michelé Stuurman of Carrol Boyes Functional Art said ‘I believe Carrol makes a conscious effort to employ women. Under her guidance, women have grown in confidence and moved into more senior roles within the company through nurturing and encouragement.’
Whilst women are integral to the business, when bringing in employees, Carrol is neither biased nor influenced. ‘The idea of having someone’s life in my hands was nerve-racking, employing people has always been stressful. It was a responsibility I took very seriously and still do to this day.’
