VIDEO: A tiny fisherman’s cottage is transformed into a stylish beach house from Condé Nast House & Garden on Vimeo.
The starting point of the renovation was incorporating the home into its surrounds – in this case, a large dune on which the house sits. ‘The home had to feel like it had emerged from the dune and weathered as it sat there,’ say the homeowners. ‘It makes us happy to see that it is ageing nicely.’
The central spine of the house is timber clad with stone floors that feel surprisingly soft underfoot. Leading off of this are five king-sized bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms that open onto heavenly open-air showers. ‘Over summer we fill the house with family and friends, but year round the two of us head there alone and treat it as a spa space,’ say the homeowners.
The home makes use of a modular approach to living, with spaces easily opened up onto each other for a free-flowing, uncluttered living setup. The best spot, though, is undoubtedly what the owners call the ‘Ibiza Lounge’, a living area that spills out onto the pool deck complete with comfortable loungers and a hot tub. ‘You can park there for the entire day or cool off in the pool,’ say the homeowners. ‘It’s a very relaxed space.’
The couple credit Cècile and Boyd for perfectly capturing this golden state of being in one home. It’s both stylish and effortless while at the same time staying true to its earthy, simple roots. ‘We never fail to leave here feeling utterly restored and just plain happy,’ they say.
