Award-winning gospel artist Ntokozo Mbambo, released her latest album, 'Moments in Time' as a surprise album for her fans. The gospel music sensation features popular songs and hymns she has covered on her 20-year journey as a gospel musician, from her Joyous Celebrations days to now as a solo musician. She tells us more about the new album, how she maintains her Zulu swag, her favourite holiday destination and travel essentails.
Your new album a surprise album to your fans. What was the thought process behind it?
I hosted a show on the 23rd of September called 'Moments In Time'. The reason for that show was to look back on the songs I have done in the 20 years I have been in the gospel music industry. We didn’t tell anyone that we were actually recording the show live. And what a better way to release the album as a gift to my fans, than on my 33rd birthday.
Ever thought of moving abroad and making a greater success of your music career?
As much as SA has its own issues, I love this country. I love the fact that once I am tired of speaking English I can always speak Zulu. Moving abroad has so many implications that I am not ready for. It would take God himself to say ‘Ntokozo you need to move’.
You were born in Umlazi, Durban, and even though you have been in Joburg for a while, you still have that KZN swag. How do you keep it intact?
Most of my time is spent with family and they are very Zulu in nature, that’s how I keep that KZN swag.
Favourite holiday destination?
I have to say London, I was there recently. I always have an amazing time there.
What are your must-pack items when you're travelling
?
Allergex—sinuses are just a mess. No matter where I go, I need to make sure I am covered so I can have a good time. Lip gloss, my cell phone—so I can capture the special moments of course. And lots of money to indulge in some shopping. And oh, not forgetting my husband—I have a lot of fun with him!
Favourite thing you recently bought on a trip?
I recently bought this super hot pair of shoes in London. They have a lovely sequence design and I am so in love with them. I bought them at a bargain, just £4.99.
